Japanese Politics: Political parties (Pt. 5)

Here are description of major political parties:

a. Liberal Democratic Party (LDP):

  • Long standing political party
  • Usually conservative
  • Pro-business tendencies

b. Democratic Party of JapanĀ  (DPJ):

  • Established as a centre party with mix members from LDP, centrist and form socialist
  • Strong support base from labour union

c. Constitutional Democratic Party (CDP)

  • Recently formed in Oct 2017
  • Large opposition party in the Lower House
  • Centre-left tendency
  • Pro-pacifist constitutional agenda
  • Allied with Communist (JCP) and Socialist.

c. Komei:

  • Religious group based on Buddhism
  • Form alliance with LDP
  • Strong support base amongst the elder population

Japanese Communist Party:

  • Left leaning
  • Pro-welfare

Party of Hope

  • Mainly compose of breakaway senior members from LDP and DPJ.
  • No strong unify set of policiesĀ  and a vague reform theme.
