What to do for New Years

I remember a few years ago I made a list of ways how to celebrate my new years but I don’t know where I’ve written it or whether I did or not, but I’ll like to continue establishing my new years tradition. So here are list of the current things I do to celebrate new years.

Before new year:

Usually after Christmas I will do these following things:

1. Do my yearly reflection & resolution report:

Every year before New Years I write a reflection on how the year went, high lights and the progress of my resolution. Also write an overview of the years goals too (which may not be resolution).

2 . New Year’s cleaning:

I like the idea of spring cleaning, because spring represents a new fresh start for life and growth. However, recently I’m beginning to think  New Year’s cleaning might be a better choice because it is more convenient as it coincide with the holiday season of Christmas and New Year, thereby hitting 3 birds with one stone. Another good reason is that it represent a start of a new year and so it really should start of clean and tidy. So even though I really like the idea of spring cleaning when it’s more sunnier and fresh, New Year’s cleaning is just more convenient and realistic as I’m less likely to forget.

So for New Year’s cleaning, it involves cleaning and decluttering. I’d do cleaning in places I don’t often clean such as windows, drains, pipes and other external part of house. Also throw out items that is no longer needed and reorganising or tidying up. And of course doing a deep clean like dusting and mopping through out the home.

During New Year Eve:

1. New years eve gathering, snacks and drinks:

Most importantly is to spend time with friends & family towards and have a snacks & drink together towards the countdown. I realised that I tend to have vegan burger on so it has  become my new years eve tradition. I’ll then have snacks and drinks towards the countdown and watch the fireworks. For drinks, I usually have shloer white grape sparkling drink or if I’m lucky – Mitsuya plum soda! I may consider eating toshikoshi soba noodles meal as too.

2. New year’s eve shows:

Some countries has new year’s national TV shows on. It’s nice to watch something that the whole country is watching and feel united.

During New Year:

1. New Year Prayer:

I like to start the year with prayers or recitation. Why not start it with blessing and positivity? Other culture may do ritual such as tradititonal ritual dances.

2. New years food:

On new years day, I tend to include mochi. I am now considering to adopt vegan hot pot. Other examples you may want to consider is vegan osechi (Japanese new years lunch box).

3. Send happy new year’s greetings:

Yup, it’s important send greetings or gifts to our friends and community to show that we haven’t forgotten them. A good community is everything.
